Marion School District The Marion School was organized in 1887 and began classes that fall. Consolidation brought the community of Dolton into the Marion School District, beginning with the high school in 1944. Further consolidation brought the community of Monroe into the district in 1965. The K-12 Marion Public School has an excellent academic curriculum, as well as many extra-curricular activities. Our student to teacher ratio is 13 to 1 for the elementary and 11 to 1 for the high school. A large computer lab is available to the students, with computers also involved in the elementary curriculum. Our high school Constitutional Law Class students have won the “We The People” contest several times, including this year. The class will be traveling to Washington, D.C. this spring to compete at the national level. In 1995, an addition was completed including a new band and chorus room, restrooms, concession stand and a second gymnasium. Having two gyms available has provided additional activity opportunities for all ages. The school district provides busing to serve the rural areas, as well as the neighboring communities of Dolton and Monroe. Visit the school website at www.marion.k12.sd.us Higher Education Marion is fortunate to be located within commuting distance of several schools of higher education.
