Well, first let us say THANK YOU to whoever arranged for the perfect weather throughout the entire Celebration—well done!! From beginning to end, it was a truly memorable Celebration. The weekend of June 18-19-20, 2004 was a flurry of activity—from the carnival rides to the fireworks to the parade to the Mz. Marion contest—you name it, the people were there for it! There were over: 220 entries in the parade—180 entries in the Car/Truck/Tractor Show & Shine—50 wedding dresses at “Yesterday & Today”—110 entries in the Tractor Pull—50 entries in the Kid’s Pedal Pull—550 attendees at the All School Reunion Banquet & Program—20 contestants in the Mz. Marion Contest—790 fed at the Community Luncheon. Our 125th weekend was special because of the work of hundreds of people and the participation by thousands of citizens with ties to Marion. It is not one person, one business or one committee that makes things happen - it is a community working together to make our future brighter for tomorrow. It all must start with each of us, giving of our time and then growing from there. It will be interesting to see how much brighter Marion’s past will be at our 150th because we all worked together and boldly moved forward. Happy 125th Birthday Marion!!! |
